check out http://greenapple2012.com

I have the new page set up and almost ready to “launch” but now I need to figure out how to “drop” all these old posts into that new site; I would hate to lose everything.

The image isn’t as sharp, but I like the font and spacing better; feels more open and ‘roomy’.

Would love your comments. If you hate it, it’s not too late to keep looking for other themes.

I had to take a week off for Christmas but started the web transfer again today. By next weekend I will have this finished.

I have all the postst moved over to the newsite. Now I just have a few minor “tweeks” and I will “publish’ the new site on 1-1-12. the url is http://greenapple2012.com Same as this only without the wordpress in the url.

Life's a Beach

A lot has been happening for the past several weeks and I have gotten lax about keeping up with my blog.  Why is it right when all the booty from our gardens starts to roll in, that’s when things get really crazy-busy?   Well that’s what happened.  We have been traveling, visiting, and enjoying other activities.  Unfortunately that’s also when grass & weeds grow about 12″ per day, and the weather fires up hotter than Hades.

So I did manage to get lots from the garden early in the season , but unfortunately I also lost a lot in August.

But in nature nothing goes to waste so all the neighboring critters and bugs sent out invites to my “community garden” and they cleaned up.  Not without first stinging my husband on the one day he tried to mow through the weeds on the riding mower. Guess the hornets claimed squatter’s rights  to the garden; you can bet it will be a long time till he tries THAT stunt again!

Now I understand the Farmer’s eternal optimistic nature as s/he looks over the crops and promises, next year will be better.

Joplin Tornado – What’s happening here

The big news in our part of the world is the storms last night that ripped through Southwest Missouri. We were in our storm shelter for a good while riding out the wicked weather, but the worst of it (so far as I know) hit Joplin. This is a photograph of  the hospital where the roof was blown off and all the windows were shattered.

That’s a helicopter you see in the photo foreground; it’s demolished!  The hospital only had 5 minutes notice to get patients to safety. After the tornado people in the community started running to the hospital to help. Citizen volunteers were helped CARRY patients out to cars and then drove them to other hospitals.  People miles and miles away are finding Xrays, personal photographs, etc. in their yards.

Outside the hospital we could see smoke billowing out; last I knew they thought it might be liquid O2 leaking.

Remember, this is just the hospital. The entire community was affected.  So far, 89 people are found dead. As we find out today what happened, please remember everyone in your prayers!

Blackberry Winter

Here in the Ozarks there is  something we all know as Blackberry Winter. Every year right when the blackberries start blooming we swing back into a very cold rainy spell. After being spoiled with 60 and even 70 degree temps, we are now (yesterday for sure, let’s see what today has in store) in a COLD spell.  Yesterday at times I would swear it was winter again.  So I went out to check the blackberries and sure enough, they are starting to bloom!  It’s easy to get carried away with the warm weather but don’t put out the tender crops until AFTER we have had the Blackberry Winter!
